Why after spending more than a quarter of a century supporting the current leadership team has Judith Armstead decided to break ranks and call for a change?

Who was the "Local 1600 officer who met with her administration to discuss eliminating
department chairs and replacing them with non-union divisional deans." as reported by
Norman Swenson in his column in the October issue of the union newspaper?
|
The comment in the Voice regarding Malcolm X’s proposal to change the structure of the academic
departments was directed towards Judith Daylie Armstead, Vice President of Local 1600 and
the Union officials at Malcolm X. You can read Vice President Armstead's detailed refutation
of these scurrilous charges by clicking
here. The Voice refused to print this response.

Why did some of the issues of the Union Voice sound and look like it was the UPC Voice? Could it be because
Norm Swenson can't tell the difference between his caucus and his union?
|
All of us have noticed the obvious slant of the Voice toward Perry and Norm. Our Union dues pay for the Voice and it should not be slanted toward any party. Until the February 2004 issue the Voice Editor would only take pictures of Norm and Perry even when other Union officers were present at functions. We are gratified to see that this has changed.

Why is Norman Swenson supporting a ticket with only ONE of his current officers instead of the ticket with FIVE of his officers? Is it because Perry Buckley is the only officer who is wont to curry favor with him?

Why were four individuals named as committee chairs in August? Their committees have no assigned duties
nor do they have any members. The committee chairs are paid $75.00 per meeting just to attend the meeting
and cast their votes. Why are our dues paying for this type of patronage?
|
The total cost for this boondoggle comes to $1,500. The money could have been used to pay for organizing
campaigns for the part-time employees at Harper and Triton Colleges. Organizers are paid $15.00 per hour.
This would have paid for one hundred hours of work for these campaigns. |
Why was the Local 1600 Strike Fund established six weeks after the Harper College Strike?
|
Curiously the fund came only after the UDC distributed its first flyer which called for the strike fund.
|
Why is Bill Naegele supporting the other caucus?
|
Quite frankly we are mystified. He talks about experience - but he dismisses the fact that the opposition
slate only has ONE out of the current EIGHT officers. ALL
of the rest of the current officers who are running for office are running on our slate.
Why don't you read Bill's statement here and try to figure it out for yourself.
You might also want to compare what he wrote this time around with what he had written back in 2002.
|
What does "Norm's caucus" have to say about these issues?
|
For the most part they seem to feel that everything is OK. They don't seem to understand why ONLY ONE of the current eight
officers is running on their slate. Don't take our word for it, click here to see their web site:
http://www.ccctu-iupc.org.
But please come back to our site if you want to find out about us - don't pay too much attention to their statements.

What about the things the I-UPC has to say about the UDC?
